Cremation Service Options

If you are in need of cremation services, The Gardens of Boca Raton, FL is able to serve both those who are in immediate need as well as individuals who are looking to pre-plan funeral arrangements. Here at The Gardens, we believe that no additional burden should be placed on individuals during such an emotional time and strive to make the experience as simple and straightforward as it can possibly be.

Direct Cremation

A “Direct Cremation” also referred to as a “Simple Cremation” is the cremation of a loved one without a service or a viewing. Since a “Direct Cremation” does not involve a service or viewing prior to the cremation, there is no need for embalming or preparation of the body. A Direct Cremation gives the family the flexibility to have a memorial service on their own terms which can avoid the additional costs of a casket and funeral services. Oftentimes, people assume that the term “Direct Cremation” means the deceased is taken from the place of passing directly to the crematory. This is not the case. Death certificates, contracts and state required permits must all be completed before the cremation can be scheduled or take place. The cremation process could take up to (10) business days or longer.

Memorial Service

A memorial service or a “celebration of life” is a service honoring your loved one in a more informal way. One of the biggest differences between a memorial service and a traditional funeral service is that the body of the decedent doesn’t necessarily have to be present at the ceremony. Although it can be, if the family chooses to do so. We call that a memorial service with a rental casket. Because the remains of the loved one aren’t required to be present for this type of service, the ceremony can take place at any time after the passing.

Another important distinction between a memorial service and a traditional funeral service is the location. A “celebration of life” can be held anywhere the family chooses. This simply could be in the comfort of your own home, a country club, restaurant, park or beach. This service type can also include what is called a “Scattering at Sea”. If your loved one’s wishes are cremation, you may choose to scatter their cremains at sea by boat as part of the memorial service or after if they are at a different location. If you know someone who owns a boat, you may go on a boat yourself to perform this ritual or contact your funeral home

Viewing/Visitation with Memorial Service

A viewing or visitation is for those who opt for an open casket for friends and family to pay their respects and say their goodbyes. The viewing usually occurs before the memorial service whether that be on the same day or the night before depending on the family’s religion and wishes. Viewings and visitations are held at the funeral home or at a local church if they will allow it.
